Hi my name is Hermana Brooks. I have worn skirts everyday for the past
6 months of my life. I enjoy long bike rides and getting caught in the
rain and yes, I'm a Mormon. Hermana Allred and I are obsessed with
Mormon.org profiles and creating our own "I'm a Mormon" phrases. I
encourage you all to watch some "I'm a Mormon" videos. They are the
best!
Well like always this week went faster than the last and we are seeing
so many miracles. I could sit here and list them all, but that would
take me more than 1 hour I have so I will just tell you some
highlights. We have about 2 handfuls of investigators at this moment
and they are all pretty awesome. However, this week they all seemed to
flake on us and I remember Friday being so hard because every single
one of our plans had fallen through, so yeah we were a little
discouraged, but we ended up tracting in a trailer park. Let me just
say we have seen so much success from them. We were tracting there on
Friday for a good hour and a half and every single person we talk to
(and I mean every single person) was Hispanic. Talk about excitement
for us gringas! We were able to set up about 15 return appointments
for this week, so we are looking forward to this week. We have a goal
to reach 25 lessons... Esperamos que nosotras podemos hacerlo... Lots
and lots and lots of oraciones.
The area we cover has about 7 English areas including YSA for
Univeristy of Central Florida. Hermana Allred and I went through this
phase of walking down the busiest road just talking with people and
last night we received the greatest compliment I think I have ever
received. The YSA Elders were telling us that people were coming up to
them and asking about the church because they had seen to girls
walking the streets with a certain spirit about them. Not only were we
trying to find more people who are interested in learning more, but
because we had a smile on our faces and the light of a Christ within
us people were wanting to learn more. "I say unto you, can ye look up
to God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? I say unto you,
can you look up, having the image of God engraven upon your
countenances? (Alma 5:19) As you go about your daily lives doing good
with the countenance of Christ upon your faces people will wonder
where you source of happiness comes from allowing you to tell them
about the message that can make them as happy as you are. Be happy!
I was thinking yesterday while I was reading "the fourth missionary"
about my talents and abilities that I have been blessed with. While I
have so much that my Heavenly Father has given me I have been really
trying to develops more everyday. Like Nephi who was commanded to
build a boat, he didn't know in that time that Heavenly Father was
going to want him to build a temple later on, but because he had his
talents and those abilities he was able to do so. Yes, I would have
been happy if I hadn't served a mission. Yes, I would have been able
to accomplish many great things, but this gospel wouldn't have had
such a huge impact on me. I wouldn't have the understanding I have
now, nor would I have become the person that Heavenly a father wants
me to become. Everyday is just such a blessing on the mission and
everyday I am growing and learning and sweating (dang cardigans!) but
I LOVE IT!
Espero que ustedes tengan un buen semana!!
Con amor,
Hermana Brooks
