AH! Estoy muy animada porque nosotros tenemos un investigador con fecha de bautismal. In other words, we have an investigator with a baptismal date. He is the cutest old man, ever. He's in his 70's, partially blind, and Colombian. I had found him while on exchanges with one of the Sister Training Leaders who speaks ZERO Spanish. Yes, I can speak Spanish when I try realllyyyy hard. Anyways, we met this man and said a prayer with him and got to know him a little bit, he has a belief in God and Jesus Christ, but doesn't have a religion. Me and Sister Schmidt talked with him for a bit and then left and went a few houses down and met a woman who we set a return appointment with. Fast forward a few days and me and my companion go to the appointment with the lady I had met a few days prior and guess what? She wasn't there. Way to go Satan, but the Lord has perfect timing. Since, the guy I had met a few days later lives only a few houses down I thought it would be cool for Hna. Hernandez to meet him and talk to him in Spanish better than I can! haha so we get there and end up sharing The Restoration with him and my oh my it went so great. While explaining the Book of Mormon and giving him a copy he held it to his heart and said "this book is a blessing from God. I can feel it." ***engage bawling*** We extended him to baptism and he accepted. December 15th is going to be such a great day for this sweet man. I am so beyond grateful for him and the privilege we have teaching him and for finding him in the most unlikely circumstances with my minimal Spanish skills. He was more than prepared because if he wasn't I don't think he would have accepted us a second time. We have 3 appointments set with him this week so hopefully things turn out.
Last night we went to see a family referral and were praying that they would let us in, well they did, but were deeply planted in their own religion. We go back and forth on doctrine for a bit and at the end he looked us dead in the eyes and said, "there is no Joseph Smith." In that very moment I knew more than ever that this church is true and that my faith is unshakable. One of my favorite quotes from Preach My Gospel is from Ezra Taft Benson and says, "Our main task is to declare the gospel and do it effectively. We are not obligated to answer every objection. Every man eventually is backed up to the wall of faith, and there he must make his stand." Ah! I love that. Each and every day I take my stand as a disciple of Jesus Christ and I am so grateful to be a part of this work. It's the best.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoys time with family. I sure do miss it, but the families here are so great to us. I am excited to be spending time with them. I even convinced the Bishop's wife to make green bean casserole for Thanksgiving since we are joining them. Score!
I see miracles each and everyday. I wish I could share them all with you guys, but unfortunately you'll just have to wait till I get home to hear them.
Con amor,
Hermana Brooks
