One word for this week: miracles.
HECTOR WAS BAPTIZED!!! Sorry I was so lame last week and didn't update ya'll that much, but here we are. It has been the craziest past few weeks and let me just say he is going to be the most solid member for the rest of his life. He was an absolute miracle. One of the biggest miracles I have seen on my mission. Everything just worked out so perfect. His friends, his work schedule, his willingness to follow Christ and the gospel of Jesus Christ and everything else fell exactlly into place. Before my mission call I was praying for the people wherever I was going to be serving, then I received my call and I was in shock that it was to Florida, but yesterday I was reassured of why I am serving where I am.
Another big miracle of my mission... Rolando. Let me fill you in on him. He's 22, from Venezuela, one of the coolest guys I have ever met. Why? Well for many reasons, but one being he was a professional soccer player, he's even played for Germany and is trying out for the Orlando City. He's been here for two months and his life has been a little crazy to say the least, but he's the most prepared person I have ever met. He is a cousin of a guy who is taking the discussions from the English elders and has even gone to church a few times since being here, but just hasn't understood very much. We show up on Wednesday to meet him and he goes and grabs his Book of Mormon and is like sorry I haven't read that much... We were thinking he's in 1 Nephi or something, but no.... He's in Jacob! Like what? I just have so much love for him. It's been the biggest blessing having all these prepared put in our path.
The craziest things happen on exchanges and by craziest I mostly mean funniest. Let me just say Colombians are my real favorite, but Mexicans are right up there with them. This was a conversation we had this week while contacting a man...
Him: "yeah I totally agree... What kind of father gives his son a stone when he asks for some bread, or a serpent when he asks for a taco..."
Jajajajja yeah he literally said taco...
It's been kinda making me sad... I feel like I am at where I want to be as a missionary (yeah there's always room for improvement and stuff) but now I have to go home soon. It's just not fair. Boo!
Jajaja reason #38493 why the FOM is the best mission... Only in Florida would we be able to teach in Spanish, Portuguese and English all in a weeks worth of lessons.
Bishop told us this week to visit this super less-active widowed mother of 2, so we did. She is this young mom who is just trying to do all she can for her kids. She has been wanting to go back to church for awhile, but doesn't want to receive all the attention from church members. She also wants us to teach her kids so they can learn of the gospel and be baptized. So here we are explains about God, Jesus Christ and prayer in the most simple we know how. I start explaining to the little girl how we can pray and what we can pray such as when we are scared, when we need a friend or when we need help on a test.... She then replies, "that's like cheating." Hahaha we were all laughing, she is the cutest.
I continue to see the hand of the Lord in every aspect and detail of my life and really I am just trying to soak everything up.
Con amor,Hermana Brooks
