Wow. Well this week was an eventful one with a little mission heartbreak. My mission BFF aka Hermana Halverson went home for some family business this past week and I am now in a trio with Spanish sisters whose area is right next door to the Kissimmee area. We are covering two areas for the last 2 weeks of this transfer. But seriously T Halv's was the best and President said that when she comes back out we get to finish our work together. You know those people you instantly click with? Well she was my girl. We grew so much together and we were probably friends in the pre-existence. SHOUT OUT TO T HALV'S BECAUSE IT'S HER BIRTHDAY TODAY. It's also Cinco de Mayo and district p-day so you know it's going to be a good one. Vivan los fiesteros!!
These past few days have been pretty rough to say the least with a whole lot of packing and stress, but I got to my new apartment and area and found a huge bouncy ball that was sent to me. Thanks dad and family and friends. It was just what I needed that day.
The day after was just what I needed too. It was the temple dedication for the Ft. Lauderdale Temple and it was beautiful. I have never had the opportunity to attend one, so it was cool to see how it works. The talks were awesome!! There was in particular that stood out to me about establishing Zion where we stand. The speaker went on to talk about how it doesn't matter the languages we speak "english, spanish, haitian.... or german" (he threw that one in there because President Uchtdorf was presiding). This truly is a hinder on the work here in Florida. I have seen it evident in a few wards where I have served and how the separation of the cultures is slowing down the progression of the wards. The work with members is one of my favorite parts of missionary work, probably because I always took the missionaries for granted when they were in my own home ward.
I am so excited to be able to work here in this new area and learn from these two Hermanas, Hermana Monson y Hermana Hansen. We all come from the west coast, so there was immediate bonding there. Everyone is always talking about how horrible trios are, but this one is golden, granted it has only been 3 days, but yeah it's going to be the best and are going to prove all those people wrong.
I am sorry this letter is kind of boring, but there is just so much to do today with lots of carne asada to eat. I love this gospel so much and this culture. The Hispanic people truly do know how to love other people. This is something I have been trying to develop for the longest time... getting there step by step. But hey, God doesn't expect perfection, only progression.
I hope you all have a blessed week!
Con amor,
Hermana Brooks
